First look at the Imperial Daleks
So, after a short break, I'm back to tinkering with the Whoniverse Galaxy Mod! Even though the mod takes place after the Last Great Time War, ever since the mod started there were always requests for a particular Classic Who element - the Imperial-Renegade Dalek Civil War, as seen in the Remembrence of the Daleks episode. Myself. I love this part of Dalek history myself, finding a way to implement them, though, took some time to think through.
After some very fruitful discussions on the mod's Steam page I came up with a solution - there will a single new origin, Dalek Civil War, which will enable two Civics - one for the Imperial Daleks, and another for the Renegades. This way, the game will be able to tell which faction is which and correctly spawn the other one. So if you start a new game as the Imperial Dalek Faction, the Renegades will spawn automatically - no need to force spawn them as a preset empire! I'm also aiming to implement failsafes to prevent the opposite faction's spawn if it is already in game, so that multiplayer games can be fully supported.
Let's take a look at the Imperial Dalek Faction preset empire screen:
Couple of new things here! First of all, we have some very neat portraits for Imperial Daleks as well as a new Imperial Dalek flag (made from the Emperor Davros' silhoutte). The portraits will now have custom sound, too.
In addition to the Origin, we can also see the new Civic - Imperial Dalek Doctrine. This is an alternative to the more general Dalek Supremacy civic that is currently implemented in the game. The Imperial Dalek Doctrine gives following bonuses:
-10% Claim Influence Cost (the Empire is looking to expand and takeover not just the Renegades, but all timespace)
Research Speed (Society): +10% (Davros being in charge means a technological bonus, with society techs being pretty much his speciality)
Stability from Soldier jobs: +1 (To represent the Imperial's tight discipline)
Automatic Resettlement Chance: +25% (This is important to make Dalek factions work smoothly, since Daleks require Dalek Incubation Vats buildings to grow. This bonus might be removed later and moved to Dalek Origins).
Another important feature is the Imperial Skaro homeworld. The Imperials come from a different timespace where the Last Great Time War didn't happen yet and to reflect this, they start in their own pocket universe, which includes not only their own version of Skaro (from before its star exploded), but also other systems, such as Necros or Spiridon. This pocket universe is connected to the greater galaxy using a wormhole, representing time travel.
Just like the Imperials, the Renegades also have their own mini-galaxy - so far containing only one system, Thule, where the Renegade base is located. The Imperial Daleks start with a Dalek Civil War event chain with the goal of taking over the Renegades base. But before they get to that, they will have a chance to relive the Remembrence of the Daleks episode through a short serie of events and special projects.
The Remembrence sub-chain has a couple of different endings - one of them is canonical (Skaro goes supernova) and another gives you a Hand of Omega relic. As always, I tried to keep it simple, so the relic gives a handy bonus to Influence and nice bonus when activated. It might change in the future, though.
